Toscano

Toscano

The creation of Toscano took place in August of 1815 in Florence. At that time, the cigar producers had simply forgotten about a tobacco harvest left out to dry in the summer sun when a heavy rainstorm occurred. Instead of discarding the wet tobacco, they decided to make inexpensive cigars out of it. These cigars quickly gained popularity among the poorer residents of Florence. This is said to be how the now legendary Toscano cigar (Toscani is the plural) was born. The brand's slogan is TOSCANO - PASSIONE ITALIANA, which the translation from Italian probably reveals on its own... :-)

(Most) Toscani cigars consist of Italian-grown Kentucky tobacco as the filler. This tobacco is fire-cured and undergoes natural fermentation. Depending on the format, the finished cigars are aged for 4 to 12 months. This filler is usually complemented or wrapped by a wrapper/binder from the USA. Unlike Caribbean cigars, there is essentially a missing layer. In Italian tobacco shops, products from this brand take up a significant amount of space, with an even wider range than what we have in Germany.

I still remember well that we used to source these specialties around the turn of the millennium from the friendly colleague Harald Sommer of Tabak Sommer in Munich. Subsequently, the import and distribution of these interesting cigars switched to Heinemann and then to Arnold André Cigars. Lately, the interesting, direct, and honest flavor of these products seems to have spread widely - especially the classic Toscano Classico, which has become extremely popular. Since 2018, we have another Italian cigar in our lineup, the Nostrano cigars, which we gladly recommend as an alternative to any Toscani lover.
