Jose L. Piedra

Jose L. Piedra

The cigars of José L. Piedra have a fantastic price performance ratio. The shortfiller, which are handmade, provide strong tobacco flavor. Introduced in Germany in 1999, the series quickly became a huge success.

Becoming familiar with the brand, we recommend the Petit Cazadores with a ring gauge of 43 and a length of 105 mm. The format is absolutely contemporary. Mild aromas, slightly sweet with light chocolate and roasted flavors make it ideal for many occasions.

The Brevas have stronger flavours and is not appropiate for beginners. Full, dark tobacco aroma with spicy-earthy flavors and a little sweetness. With a length of 133 mm and a ring gauge of 42 the Brevas are not time-consuming in stead of to the Cazadores (43 ring gauge/153 mm) which offers a slightly longer smoking time with the same taste.

If you prefer a milder and creamier, we reommend Cremas (Ring gauge 39, 134 mm). As the name suggests it is the mildest of the portfolio. The rest of the cigars all have a similar, recognizable Piedra flavor.

About the brand José L. Piedra

Although the José L. Piedra has been known only since 1999 with its new edition in Germany.  In 1880 Vicente and José Lamadrid Piedra founded the brand José L. Piedra as a commercial brand. The brand is still one of the older and formerly very well known and popular brands of Cuba. In 1880, José Lamadrid Piedra founded the factory named after him in the Cuban region Remedios, a major tobacco growing area in the Vuelta Abajo, east of Pinar del Rio. Towards the end of the 19th Century José L. Piedra was the best-known brand outside from Cuba of Havana cigars.

The production is focused on the low-price segment. The brand achieved before and after the revolution, a high popularity in the U.S. and was produced unabated until 1962. Following the adoption of the U.S. trade embargo, sales collapsed, however, the production of the brand was gradually reduced and finally discontinued completely in the early 90s.

In 1996 they relaunched the brand with the portfolio known today. With the exception of Guantanamera, José L. Piedra is the only export brand which grow their tobacco outside the region of Pinar del Rio but in Remedios.

The Vitolas were all introduced in 1996, all the models are hand made short filler. José L. Piedra is well-established for its simple packaging and bunches wrapped in cellophane.
