Boveda – Humidity Control for Cigars
Where technical expertise meets inventive spirit: inside every Boveda pack are water and specific salts. A membrane allows water to either be absorbed from the outside or released into the surrounding air, depending on the need. This small packet reliably regulates the humidity of its environment. An American Story
Like so many stories in the U.S., Boveda started in a garage – with little more than the vision of its founders. They knew the idea had potential. But it took time for Boveda to develop into the seemingly magical solution that provides humidors of different sizes with the desired humidity levels.
In the early 2000s, things took off. Boveda – the Spanish word for "vault cellar" – partnered with larger cigar manufacturers. When the first U.S. states legalized cannabis, this industry also became interested in the practical humidifiers. Today, the accessory provider Xikar handles U.S. distribution for Boveda, which is why the packets now bear the Xikar logo.
The Boveda Product Range
If you're using Boveda Packs for the first time, the different percentage levels might seem confusing. But it’s actually quite simple: cigars are ideally stored at 69 or 72 percent humidity. If you prefer slightly drier tobacco for easier burning or want to age your cigars, 65 percent is also a good choice. Cannabis or dried herbs thrive at humidity levels between 58 and 62 percent. Lower levels are suitable for certain wooden musical instruments. But that is a science unto itself, one we don’t claim to know as much about as cigars.
