Davidoff Cigars: Over 100 Years of Perfection
The name behind the premium brand Davidoff is none other than its founder: Zino Davidoff. Born into the world of tobacco, he devoted his entire life to it and was a passionate entrepreneur. His philosophy still shapes Davidoff to this day. Zino Davidoff was born in 1906 into a family that had already been dedicated to tobacco for generations. When Zino was five, antisemitic pogroms forced his family to emigrate to Switzerland. After settling in Geneva, his father Henri continued the family tradition by opening a tobacco shop that quickly became a go-to spot for the Russian community.

As a young boy, Zino learned how to blend cigarettes and pipe tobacco. But that wasn’t enough for him. A restless visionary with a cosmopolitan outlook, Zino set off on a journey through Central America and Cuba.
Zino Davidoff: Explorer and Innovator
On this journey, he immersed himself in the world of tobacco: learning the craft of cigar production and even working in the fields. He also established his first key connections with tobacco growers. Back in Switzerland, he brought this knowledge into his parents’ tobacco shop. Under his guidance, the family installed the world’s first climate-controlled cigar room. Inspired by the humid air of the tropics, Zino wanted to create the perfect storage environment for cigars. Thus, the humidor was born. Davidoff quickly became the go-to name in Geneva for cigars. During World War II, the shop even offered Havanas, thanks to Zino’s massive stockpile. After the war, at age 40, he secured the product license for his first in-house series, naming the cigars after prestigious wine estates to highlight their quality and exclusivity.
Cuban Cigars from Davidoff
Zino Davidoff signed his first contract with the Cuban tobacco organization Cubatabaco. However, the partnership ended abruptly in 1989, when Zino, in protest over declining tobacco quality, burned cigars worth 3 million US dollars. Despite this dramatic act, Davidoff’s business thrived. As early as 1970, Davidoff had partnered with Basel-based company Oettinger, which played a key role in establishing the brand globally. This partnership was instrumental in Zino's worldwide success as a cigar ambassador.
New Beginnings
After the 1989 incident, Davidoff moved its production to the Dominican Republic. Shortly after relocating, the company launched seven new cigar lines, which quickly gained recognition. Other prestigious brands followed suit—Dunhill, for example, also shifted their cigar production from Cuba to the Caribbean.
When Zino Davidoff passed away in Geneva in 1994, he left behind an extraordinary legacy. He had made Davidoff a global name with each new product. At 74, he founded his eponymous company, which continues to produce luxury accessories like watches, leather goods, and fragrances under the Davidoff brand. The Davidoff product range is vast.
All Davidoff Cigars: An Overview of the Collection
Davidoff cigars are divided into several series. The Davidoff Signature, Grand Cru, Anniversario, and Millennium series form the core of the Davidoff portfolio. Recognizable by their dual white bands and refined aromas, the Anniversario and Millennium lines also feature white bands but are blended with a much fuller body.
Black Band Collection
The Davidoff Nicaragua, Escurio, and Yamasa lines belong to the so-called Black Band Collection. First introduced in 2013, these cigars feature blends with tobaccos that are quite unconventional for Davidoff.

The Black Band Collection is easily identified by its dark cigar bands. If the “classic” Davidoff lines don’t appeal to you, these are well worth a try.
Winston Churchill
In honor of the British Prime Minister, Davidoff partnered with Winston Churchill’s descendants. A lifelong cigar aficionado, Churchill was famously never without one. The Davidoff Winston Churchill is ideal for a smoke in between. The bold Winston Churchill Late Hour is recommended after a fine meal.
Davidoff’s Most Expensive Cigar
The Oro Blanco is the little-known queen of Davidoff cigars. For those willing to spend several hundred euros on a single cigar, this is where Davidoff’s finest tobaccos shine. Rolled exclusively from the 2002 harvest and aged for years, these cigars offer pure indulgence. In addition, Davidoff offers a variety of Limited Editions, cigarillos, and pipe tobaccos. You can find the full product range in our shop.
