When it comes to deciding which whisky is the best, perhaps it's best to ask the Scots themselves. In its homeland, Glenmorangie leads the way in sales and proudly claims to be the most popular single malt in Scotland.
Glenmorangie Whisky: Single Malts with a Smooth Flavor
Glenmorangie can also boast another superlative: the distillery has the tallest stills in the country at eight meters. The necks alone measure 5.14 meters – tall enough for a male giraffe to stand alongside. Of course, giraffes don't inhabit the island, and height alone doesn't guarantee quality. But for single malt whisky, it means a particularly smooth character.
The distillery, picturesquely located on the Dornoch Firth in the northern Highlands, uses hard water. Some may be familiar with it from home: limescale deposits in pipes and stains on stainless steel sinks. Glenmorangie is well aware of these issues but refuses to give up the unique texture of the water. It also contributes to the unmistakable, smooth taste of their whisky.
Under the LVMH Umbrella: Glenmorangie Whisky
Glenmorangie has a centuries-old tradition. Whisky has been distilled in its hometown of Tain in the northern Highlands for a very long time. In earlier days, it was often done illegally, as the Scots weren't too concerned about prohibitions when it came to their cultural heritage. The distillery has officially existed since the mid-19th century. For several years now, it has been part of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton – just like the Islay brand Ardbeg. The French know a thing or two about fine drinks, elegant fashion, and the finer things in life, and Glenmorangie continues to win awards worldwide.
