Kommentar: A tribute to Cigars in general and Habanos in particular

Length: 12.50Diameter: 1.51 TAM
Looks: the wrapper was close to perfect and the edges were tucked in nicely but the medium brown cigar was slightly boxpressed. Cold: Manure and hints of chocolate and nut. Hot: Wood, leather, vanilla, chocolate, licorice with hints of pepper. The overall impression was moderately complex. Draw and smoke development was flawless, but 20 minutes into the sitting the cigar developed some minor burn issues and had to be corrected. The incident was quickly resolved, but it did influence the quality and combustion score. Ash was medium grey, speckly and a bit loose (10mm). In my opinion a very decent cigar with good price/value ratio. The smoke lasted 50 minutes. July 6th 2014

A decent looking little thing: medium brown, a few bulky ribs in the wrapper, but the edges were tucked in nicely. Cold scent was heavy - Manure, licorice, leather and soil. Hot: Licorice, pepper and vanilla. hints of straw, soil, wood and ... beans(?)- and I detected traces of chocolate. The overall impression was impressive - almost overwhelming, but aromas did not develop (change) much. Draw, combustion and smoke development was flawless. Ash was a speckly light grey, slightly flaky but firm (25 mm). In my opinion a mighty little cigar, not for every occasion but suited to accompany rich foods or drinks. The smoke lasted 45 minutes. Looks were close to perfect, a few minuscule ribs in the wrapper, but the edges were fitted snugly to the light brown and slender cylinder. Cold: manure with discrete hints of leather nut and chocalate. Hot: Leather soil and straw with hints of licorice pepper and vanilla. I also found traces of wood cream and nut. The peppery notes gradually mellowed out. Construction was a bit firm, putting a slight strain on the draw, but smoke development was adequate and combustion untroubled. Ash was dark grey, flaky and speckly. 30 mm. The overall impression was heavy and a bit sharp, but much less so, than the coronas senior tubos. Among the standard (small/cheaper) Partagas tubos cigars, I prefer this one. The smoke lasted 50 minutes. June 27th 2014

I had the good fortune to find this sample in Copenhagen. Looks: A few large ribs in the wrapper gave the large medium brown Piramides a slightly bulky appearance. The nicely fitted edges however, made the overall impression respectable. Cold: chocolate and nut with a hint of stable (manure). Hot: Soil, Leather, Nut, vanilla and licorice with hints of wood and straw. I could also detect traces of chocolate and cinnamon (??). after 25 mins the aromas became slightly less strong and now chocolate, wood and nut were the most dominating features. The mechanics were close to flawless with perfect combustion, draw and smoke development. Ash was firm, flaky and a dark speckly grey. The experience was nice but milder than expected. Not at all disappointing though. The smoke lasted 80 minutes. May 30th 2014

Looks appealing, Medium brown with two small cream coloured stains and a few minute ribs in wrapper. Edges folded neatly. Cold: Stable (manure) and hints of chocolate, nut and pepper. Hot: Wood (sharp teaky), soil and straw with hints of pepper and licorice, There are traces of vanilla, leather and cream as well. No significant changes in flavours. Flawless draw and medium smoke development. Burn is slightly uneven but untroublesome. Ash is firm, light grey and slightly flaky (2 cm). The main impression is a bit sharp (with the woody flavours) and i believe a spot of aging would be appropriate. Overall not a bad cigar with good value for money. The smoke lasted 45 minutes. Looks a bit sloppy, box press, edges of wrapper sligthly flappy in places and there are a few large ribs showing. The cigar is medium brown. Cold: Stable (Manure), Leather and a hint of nut and chocolate. Hot: The beginning is somewhat promising; notes of licorice, vanilla, soil and straw with hints of wood, pepper and leather. There are traces of nut and chocolate as well. Suggestions of a very complex experience. Unfortunately this sample was very firm in construction, making draw difficult and smoke development unimpressive. After 10 minutes burn was rather uneven and had to be corrected. After 15 minutes the cigar had to be relit. The rest of the smoke was dominated by corrections and relighting - after 35 minutes i gave up. I will have to try this one again as the flavour seems to be there. I just hope I can find a better specimen. May 9th 2014

Optically close to perfection symmetric in shape and smooth on the surface. Colour is medium brown. Cold; Spicy lesther and stable (manure). Hot: Notes of pepper wood and leather, hints of vanilla and licorice with traces of nut and chocolate. Ash is firm and speckly, 35 mm. burn and draw is impeccable and smoke development is good. The smoke is wonderfully complex and rich and the cigar is full value for money. The duration of the experience was 65 minutes. November 1st 2013

Length: 12.90Diameter: 1.67 TAM
Optically pleasant; a few ribs in the wrapper. Cold: Notes of stable (manure) and hints of leather Hot: Predominantly leather with hints of pepper, vanilla and licorice (salty to the lip) surprisingly a hint of bergamot? Burn even and flawless. ash firm, slightly flaky 2,5 cm. A nice experience. The smoke lasted 50 mins. December 14th 2013

Length: 15.49Diameter: 1.98 TAM
Overall decent looking; a few small flaws (spots) and a few ribs showing, but the shape is beautiful and edges of wrapper firm and snugly fitted. Cold: a deep scent of leather and soil with a hint of stable (manure). Hot: Notes of pepper, vanila, leather, citrus, apple, nut and chocolate with a hint of licorice. after 15 minutes pepper fades into the background. Ash is firm and speckly grey, 30 mm. There is a slight tendency to uneven burn, but it is not in any way troblesome. Draw is near perfect and smoke development is impressive. This is my most intriguing, complex and wonderful experience with cuban cigars to date and so far this is my favourite. The smoke lasted 80 minutes. January 28th 2014.

Looks decent - medium brown, a few ribs showing but the edges of the wrapper are folded snug and nicely to the body. Cold: Notes of Leather and stable (manure) with a hint of chocolate. Hot: Notes of leather, licorice, chocolate, wood and grass as well as a peppery quality that is slightly stronger than the rest. 15 minutes in pepper and wood mellows out and a hint of vanilla is joining in. The draw has been to tight from the beginning but after 30 minutes i becomes seriouly troublesome with uneven burn to the point where the cigar has to be relit, corrected and massaged near the cut. The smoke is resumed and progress is tolerable though the burn has to be corrected again and another massage is necesseary. Ash is a speckly light grey with a flaky appearence. 22 mm, Quality and price/value took a hit due to the burn and draw issues, but judging by flavour this is a complex and interesting smoke in its price range. With relighting and corrections the smoke lasted 75 mins. April 25th 2014

Length: 13.97Diameter: 2.14 TAM
Optically decent, a few ribs in the wrapper and a little tear towards the foot, but a pleasant looking light brown chubby. Cold: Stable (manure) and leather. Hot: Notes of pepper and licorice, hints of tea, Hay, chocolate, nuts and vanilla. The peppery flavour is at first overwhelming and sharp but five minutes into the smoke it mellows into the complexity of different taste components. Burn is slightly uneven and draw is light at first - almost too light to facilitate smoke development but what does develop is pleasants. Ash is firm, light grey and only slightly flaky 38 mm. a nice smoke; lasting 90 minutes. Not Peak Partagas but up there ... February 7th 2014

Length: 16.51Diameter: 1.67 TAM
Looks: Dark brown, long, slim and elegant, construction nearly flawless; wrapper edges smooth with a few faint ribs. Unfortunately my sample has a 10 mm tear by the foot, but that turns out to be immaterial, having no obvious effect on combustion or draw. Cold: stable (manure) and soil with hints of leather, chocolate and nut. Hot: notes of Soil and grass (herbs?), hints of leather and cream. faint traces of pepper and tea. After 10 mins. hints of vanilla and licorice; 5 mins later followed by hints of chocolate and nut. 30 mins. into the smoke pepper, wood and cream (!) dominating. After 45 mins.: chocolate, nut and cream. 60 mins.: Wood, tea, leather and cream. Burn even and flawless for 75 mins, then brief episode of uneven burn and corrective measures followed by even burn. Draw a bit on the firm side, smoke development medum. Ash firm and speckly 3 cm. Overall (in My experience) slightly less creamy and a bit sharper than montecristo no 2, significantly more complex than No 4 and a predominantly pleasant and stimulating experience. The smoke lasted 90 mins. February 28th 2014.

Length: 13.97Diameter: 2.06 TAM
Looks: A few ribs in wrabber and a few bulky spots, edges fitted nicely. Medium brown, decent looking, but not spectacular. Cold: very spicy with notes of leather, chocolate and nut - hints of stable (manure). Hot: Notes of leather, soil. pepper and wood. A hint of vanilla. after 5 mins. pepper mellows out. After 10 mins. predominantly sharp woody notes with hints of leather and a trace of licorice. 15 mins. in wood and leather are joined by hints of grass and tea. This combination was more or less stable throughout the remaining experience. After 50 mins. there were a few infrequent traces of nut and vanilla, but thats it. There was at tendency to uneven burn, that had to be corrected twice. Draw and smoke development was decent. Ash was firm, spotty and a bit flaky, 38 mm. The smoke was a bit monotonous, compared to the promises from the cold impression, but by no means an unpleasant experience, a bit of aging may have been appropriate. The dominating character was Wood. The smoke lasted 80 mins. March 7th 2014

Length: 13.21Diameter: 1.71 TAM
Nice looking, only a small rib in the wrapper.Cold: light stable (manure) and a hint of leather. Hot: Sharp pepper and leather, last half: hints of vanilla, chokolate and licorice. The discrete components of the taste are pleasant and intriguing but unfortunately pepper stays dominant throughout the smoke. Maybe a spot of aging would have been appropriate. Draw and combustion close to flawless. Smoke development not impressive but adequate. Ash firm and slightly flaky (25 mm). Other experiences with the Partagas Brand and several reviews has made me suspicious that my sample wasn't typical. A theory i will have to test at some point. The smoke lasted 55 mins. November 1st 2013.

Length: 19.41Diameter: 1.94 TAM
Optically: a few ribs in the wrapper, bulky in places but dark brown and ominously large and impressive looking. Cold: predominantly leather and soil with hints of straw, tea and stable (manure). Hot: Notes of cream, leather, licorice and vanilla. Hints of pepper, fruit, tea, wood, toast and grass. After 2 cm (15 min) mostly straw/tea/bergamot/licorice/pepper with an added 'salty' quality. Last third cream, leather and soil takes the lead. First half has a perfect even burn but then the thing developed serious burn issues to the point where it had to be corrected twice and re-lit once. After that it was smooth sailing again to the end. In spite of this incident the draw was mostly pleasant, aromas inticing and experience positive. Ash semi-firm (22 mm at first 30 mm later) and speckly. The smoke lasted 135 mins and was well worth the effort. The burn episode takes a bit from the quality score, but regardless; this will not be my last lusitanias. February 15th 2014
