Bock y Ca. Limited Editions

In this section, we have compiled all limited editions of the long-established cigar brand Bock y Ca. for you. Admittedly, this series is still somewhat sparsely populated, but we are confident that this will change significantly in the coming years. The first limited cigar we would like to introduce here is the 25 Anos Toro Gordo, which was launched in autumn 2024. What makes it special is that all the tobaccos used remain undisclosed. Given that, on the one hand, the Bock cigars are distributed by the importer Villiger, and on the other hand, the official exclusive importer of Cuban cigars is also nearly half owned by Villiger, we assume that this may not be a coincidence and that c...... tobaccos may have been used.

Gustavo Bock and the Invention of the Cigar Band: A Historical Innovation

The “Ca.” stands for Compania, which in turn means “associates” or “partners.” Bock is one of the oldest cigar brands from Cuba and was originally founded by the German emigrant Gustavo ("Gustav") Bock. In the 19th century, it was very popular and (allegedly) also the first cigar line to feature a cigar band on every cigar, intended to prevent the aristocratic clientele from soiling their white gloves. After disappearing in the 19th century, it was revived in 1998 by the importer Villiger as a cigar from the Dominican Republic.

Bock y Ca: The History of One of the Oldest Cuban Cigar Brands

The manufacturer of all cigars under this brand name is Matias Maragoto. He is a Cuban exile who, with his Tabacalera ABAM Cigars in the Dominican Republic, has already produced numerous lines for the German market. Matias and his wife can be met every year both at the PCA in the USA and at InterTabac in Dortmund. Both are very personable; with Matias, one now has to be careful not to overlook him, since he lost a significant amount of weight in the early 2020s. He produces numerous lines for the importer Villiger, including the Villiger 1888 cigars, which now appear in a striking red.
