Since 2015, Alejandro Alfambra has been blending cigars—all of which bear his name. The brand’s compact but impressive lineup is entirely his creation. Originally a tobacco farmer in Condega and Jalapa, Alfambra supplied the region’s Tabacaleras. He soon realized his tobacco consistently received high praise from clients. As a passionate aficionado himself, he eventually transitioned from solely selling tobacco to crafting cigars.
Alejandro Alfambra: The Path to Master Blender
Having access to premium raw materials, most of his tobacco comes from his own fields to this day. His handcrafted longfillers gained traction, finding markets even in Europe. Spain, in particular, became a key market where Alfambra enjoys great success. This is a promising indicator, as Spain, traditionally tied to Cuban cigars, is known for its discerning taste and demand for high-quality cigars. This reputation made us eager to explore Alfambra’s offerings.
The World of Alfambra Cigars
The flagship cigar from Alfambra is the El Brujito. Creamy and sweet yet offering a broad flavor profile, this cigar showcases Alfambra’s tobacco expertise. The lineup also includes the Classic Orange Serie N, a more affordable option available in 10-count bundles. It is relatively mild for a Nicaraguan cigar, yet retains depth and complexity.
The Alfambra Seleccion is an exclusive line crafted with special attention to quality and origin. Its filler comprises Criollo-98 from Nicaragua, paired with an H-2000 binder and an H-2000 wrapper from Ecuador, creating a balanced and complex smoking experience.
The Alfambra JG cigars are crafted by Alejandro Mata, a Spanish producer renowned for Alfambra and El Brujito cigars. Mata’s unique approach incorporates authentic Cuban tobaccos in his blends. The filler and binder consist entirely of Cuban-grown tobacco, while the wrapper is an Ecuadorian H-2000. The authenticity of the Cuban tobacco is verified by official invoices from Habanos S.A.
Alfambra Boutique Cigars: Pure Nicaraguan Essence
The Alfambra Boutique cigars, introduced in May 2024, represent premium craftsmanship and the influence of Spanish entrepreneur Alejandro Mata. Mata, a former spirits dealer from Málaga, discovered his passion for cigars during an invitation from Pernod Ricard to the VII. Festival del Habano in Cuba. There, he met tobacco legend Alejandro Robaina, inspiring him to establish a Tabacalera in Estelí, Nicaragua, in 2007.
Alfambra Boutique cigars are primarily made with tobacco cultivated on Mata’s Nicaraguan farms. The filler consists of Corojo 99 and H-2000, complemented by a Nicaraguan Sun Grown binder. The wrapper, a Sun Grown from Ecuador, adds a unique character to the otherwise Nicaraguan blend.
These cigars deliver woody and roasted flavors with a smooth finish. The second third maintains a consistent profile, offering a mild to medium strength. With harmonious flavor and an attractive price point, these cigars are a valuable addition for any aficionado.
