Anton Pipes: Ukraine as a Land of Pipes
It’s well-known that pipes are produced where briar grows and is harvested. Countries like France, Italy, Denmark, and Great Britain are familiar to most pipe smokers for this reason. But did you know that there is a long tradition of pipe-making in Eastern Europe, particularly in Ukraine? Probably not – but we’re here to change that.
Tradition and Innovation from Lviv
Specifically, we’re talking about the brand Anton Pipes. This small family business primarily consists of father and son, Alexander and Ivan Antonenko. Their workshop is located in Lviv, just a few kilometers from the Polish border. The company was founded by Alexander, a former fighter pilot, in the late 1990s. Initially, they focused on producing cigarillo tips, which remain popular in Eastern Europe.
The Pipe World of Anton Pipes
Gradually, success came, and the workshop expanded. They began producing pipes from maple wood, as well as pear and oak, in addition to their cigarillo tips.
Producing pipes from maple wood has a long tradition in Ukraine, for good reason. The wood grows locally in abundance and is durable, fire-resistant, neutral in taste, and easy to work with. Ivan Antonenko joined the company in 2010 to support his father, but only after completing his studies at the National Forestry University.
Anton Pipes Today
Since 2019, pipe stands made from ash wood have been added to the lineup. Ash was chosen for its durability and expressive grain.
Since 2020, they’ve also been producing pipes from imported briar and aim to expand this area significantly. Additionally, the company offers pipe tampers made from cast brass, also produced in Ukraine. The oak tobacco tray by Anton Pipes is durable, practical, and stylish. It features compartments for accessories, a work surface, and a residue outlet – perfect for pipe smokers to maintain cleanliness and elegance.
