Brebbia and Savinelli: Italian Pipe Artistry
When delving into the history of the Italian pipe manufacturer Brebbia, one inevitably encounters its shared beginnings with Achille Savinelli. It was 1947, just after World War II, when Enea Buzzi and Achille Savinelli, along with three skilled workers and capital from Uncle Bernardo, set out to establish a pipe production business. Unfortunately, the two soon realized that their views on many business matters didn’t always align. In 1956, they parted ways, with Savinelli moving to his own premises in Molina di Barasso.
From the MPB Logo to the Diamond: Brebbia Pipes
Early Brebbia pipes bore the "MPB" logo (Manifattura Pipe Brebbia), but it soon became apparent that the name wasn’t particularly memorable. When slow smoking competitions became popular in Italy in 1968, and later internationally, the logo was changed simply to "Brebbia", with the addition of the now-famous diamond shape.

Enea Buzzi and his factory workers founded their own slow smoking team, which successfully participated in several competitions and significantly contributed to the brand’s recognition. Over time, the company flourished, and in 1977, Enea's son Luciano completed his architecture studies and joined the company.
The Development of the Brebbia Brand
As Luciano gradually took on more responsibilities, he traveled across Europe with the aim of revitalizing the international business. He returned with numerous insights, noting that pipe smokers across Europe increasingly saw the pipe as an accessory that reflected their personality, rather than merely as a smoking instrument. The first series designed by Luciano, launched in 1979, was particularly tailored to the German market, where the 9-mm activated charcoal filter was gaining widespread popularity.

These and later series from the 1980s were particularly successful because the pipes featured a 9-mm bore while maintaining a slim and elegant appearance. This made Brebbia especially well-known in Germany.
Brebbia Pipes Today: Italian Design
In 1992, a large pipe museum was established, housing numerous exhibits from Enea’s personal collection. The museum is still open for visits by appointment. Today, Brebbia's production facilities are among the most traditional in Italy’s pipe-making industry. Brebbia is renowned for its distinctive, individual designs as well as its outstanding smokability. The geographical location of the factory, along with the storage facilities for briarwood, plays a significant role in ensuring that tannins and resins in the briarwood can break down naturally. As a result, Brebbia pipes offer an exceptionally pleasant smoking experience right from the first use.
