A Brit With a Bold Sense of Humor: Chinchalero
British-born John Atherton not only has a sharp, typically British sense of humor – he also knows exactly what makes a good cigar. After many years at General Cigars International, he gained extensive knowledge about our favorite indulgence. In 2011, he launched his own brand, Chinchalero, in Nicaragua.
Chinchalero Cigars: Quality Tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua
The brand produces affordable cigars made with quality tobaccos, primarily sourced from Honduras and Nicaragua. The now discontinued Reserva de Oro line, with its red band, featured a bold, spicy texture.
The Chinchaleros with the light blue band are milder by comparison, yet they still clearly reflect their Nicaraguan origin.
Torcidos and Mezcla 40: Chinchalero’s Creative Wrapper Combinations
With the Torcidos, Chinchalero has introduced a true eye-catcher. These “striped” cigars feature two wrappers – a light Connecticut and a dark Maduro – creating a bold visual contrast. But it’s more than just a visual gimmick; the medium-bodied cigar owes its distinctive flavor to this unique pairing.
The Mezcla 40 – “mezcla” meaning “blend” in Spanish – surprises with a pronounced sweetness, balanced by a subtle chili heat and a bold spiciness. A Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador gives the cigar its bright appearance.
