Don Duarte Cigars: A Long Tradition
The city of Estelí is practically synonymous with Nicaraguan cigars. Not only is it home to Don Duarte, but the ancestors of brand founder Roger Duarte Rodriguez are said to have been among the city’s early pioneers. Today, Don Duarte cigars are among the most renowned and significant brands in Nicaragua.
Roger’s family history is deeply intertwined with the "brown gold." His great-grandmother owned a small tobacco business, and his grandfather exported raw tobacco from Nicaragua to international markets.
Cigars from Nicaragua: The Legend of Don Duarte
Convinced of the quality of local tobaccos, Roger primarily uses Nicaraguan raw materials. His encounter with Evelio Oviedo in 2001 marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that lasted nearly a decade.
Known for his sunny personality and infectious enthusiasm, Evelio was responsible for blending the handmade longfillers. His work for Don Duarte came to an untimely end in 2009 with his passing. The legendary Cuban master blender left behind an enduring legacy.
Villa Vieja & Don Duarte
The brand is now owned by Fernando Navarro, who transitioned from a 20-year career as a cigar merchant to become a producer. In addition to Don Duarte, he also manages the Villa Vieja label.
Spotlight: Don Duarte Cigars
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand saw a sharp increase in sales and relocated its production facility to meet growing demand. This transition also provided an opportunity to introduce refinements to the cigar blends.
The latest vitolas of the Don Duarte Clasico Golden feature an Ecuadorian wrapper, while the rest remains true to its Nicaraguan roots. These cigars are available exclusively from us. Additionally, another series is currently available in Germany: the Don Duarte Reserva Privada, the most refined and full-bodied line of the brand.
