El Galan Cigars: Seriously Good Press!
We couldn’t help but notice that El Galan made quite an impression on the US cigar press. Reviews were right at the top, usually in the upper tenth of the scale. That’s a reliable indicator these cigars are worth it—so of course we were intrigued.

When we met brand founder Felix A. Mesa in 2016 at the IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas, the sample cigars won us over instantly. It was clear to us that we wanted to bring this product—still unknown on the German market at the time—to Germany. And since El Galan ships directly to us without any intermediaries, we’re able to offer the label at a price comparable to what you'd pay in the States.
Cuban Exile in Nicaragua
That Felix knows his craft comes as no surprise. After all, he comes from a Cuban tobacco family—the trade is practically in his blood. The name El Galan is a nod to his grandfather, known for his gallant character. Word of Felix’s skill has spread across the industry: Carlito Fuente appointed him to run the then-under-construction Fuente Tabacalera in Nicaragua. Skilled professionals are in high demand—even in the cigar business.
First-Class Cigars by El Galan
The El Galan Connecticut series brings together true Nicaraguan puros. As expected, they’re complex and flavorful, though not as peppery as their darker siblings, the Reserva Especial by El Galan. Their Oscuro wrapper gives them a deep brown look—and a more powerful profile. Both lines build up in strength as you smoke them.

The El Galan Maduro series, on the other hand, leans sweeter thanks to its Brazilian wrapper, though it doesn’t hold back on flavor either. The Tobaco de la Casa series is the brand’s most affordable line, delivering El Galan’s usual quality at a more than fair entry-level price.
