Under his artistic name Former, he can look back on around 60 years of experience and is now regarded as a living legend of pipemaking. His pipes embody the classic Danish design language without being bound by rigid conventions. Grain, proportions and function determine the design. Hans Nielsen has shaped Danish pipe culture not only through his own work. As a mentor, he passed on his knowledge to other renowned pipemakers, influencing generations of craftsmen. What is particularly remarkable is that his advanced age has done nothing to diminish the precision of his work: The craftsmanship and finish of his pipes remain at the exceptionally high standard for which he is known.
