Romijn Freehand

Martin Romijn is a Dutch pipe maker who translates his craftsmanship into clearly structured, well-balanced forms. Each of his pipes is entirely handmade and reflects a precise sense of proportion and line. Romijn works calmly and methodically, without haste and with great care, giving his pipes a distinctive sense of harmony.

Before turning to pipe making, Romijn served in the Dutch Marine Corps and later worked for many years as a stonemason. These professional backgrounds continue to shape his approach today: discipline, precision and a trained eye for material and form define his style. The transitions between bowl, shank and mouthpiece are executed with precision, the surfaces finely tuned and always marked by functional clarity.

His style shows influences of the Scandinavian school yet remains unmistakably his own. The pipes appear modern without seeming cold, combining technical accuracy with a calm, handcrafted character. Romijn produces only in small quantities, giving each piece his personal touch. Some of his pipes are designed for 9mm filters.

Today, he is regarded as one the few established and well-known pipe makers in the Netherlands.
