Ruetz Freehands

Christian Ruetz is certainly one of the most celebrated young pipe makers in the German-speaking world. His unique style, the flawless workmanship of his pipes and his professional brand image are important pillars of his success.

It all started very "small" when he smoked his first pipe at the age of 16 and began teaching himself how to make pipes shortly afterwards.

Christian Ruetz finds his greatest inspiration in nature and his Tyrolean homeland. The rugged, wild and unspoilt nature is reflected in the details of his pipes, especially the playing with open bark at the end of the stem and the characteristic bark application on the mouthpiece have become his "signature style".

When we were able to hold his pipes in our hands for the first time at the Stuttgart Pipe Fair, we were still surprised at how filigree and detailed his pipes are. The pipes look much more massive in photos than they are in reality.

It is also pleasing that Christian Ruetz equips his pipes with a 9mm filter drilling. What is a taboo for some pipe makers, he integrates into his shapes as a matter of course.

Ruetz pipes are a good example of the fact that details play a decisive role in pipe design and that natural imperfections often point the way to perfection.

What's more, Christian is an approachable, likeable guy who forms an almost symbiotic team with his equally likeable wife at pipe fairs.

That's why we are particularly pleased to be able to present his pipes in our shop.

You can also find other freehand pipes from different pipe makers in our shop.
