Courrieu Pipes

Courrieu pipes represent traditional French pipe-making craftsmanship, where the focus is not on elaborate decoration but on reliable functionality and an enjoyable smoking experience. In keeping with the finest French pipe-making traditions, the manufacturer concentrates on the essentials: carefully selected briarwood, well-thought-out construction, and solid craftsmanship. Elaborate decorations and lacquer finishes are often avoided. Instead, many pipes are simply oiled or waxed. This leaves the wood largely in its natural state, which can also have a positive effect on smoking characteristics. Another notable feature is that numerous Courrieu pipes are available with a 9 mm filter bore, even though French pipes are traditionally smoked without a filter.

Courrieu Pipes from Cogolin: French Craftsmanship Since 1802

The history of the Courrieu pipe manufactory dates back to 1802. The company is based in Cogolin in southern France and is one of the country's long-established pipe manufacturers. Its proximity to the Mediterranean region is no coincidence: this is where tree heath grows, the root burls of which provide the briarwood used to make pipe bowls. This wood is known for its hardness and heat resistance. At Courrieu, particular importance is placed on wood quality and functional craftsmanship. The natural grain is allowed to speak for itself. Small irregularities are part of the character of these handcrafted pipes and emphasize their authentic charm.

Courrieu Pipes Available Exclusively at Tabac Benden in Germany

Tabac Benden is the only retailer in Germany offering Courrieu pipes. To see the manufacturing process and assess the quality of the pipes firsthand, Tabac Benden employee Kristof Szabo visited the workshop in Cogolin. There, he personally inspected each pipe and selected models for the store's range. Rather than relying solely on catalogue images and manufacturer specifications, Kristof was able to examine the different models firsthand, paying particular attention to craftsmanship, wood quality, and the variety of shapes. The result is a personally curated selection of French briar pipes, including numerous models with a 9 mm filter bore. Anyone who appreciates traditional French pipes without unnecessary embellishments and values careful selection should take a closer look at the Courrieu pipes available at Tabac Benden.
