Tsuge Ashtray Made in Japan

This pipe ashtray from Tsuge is made in Japan in Gifu Prefecture. It is considered the centre of Japanese ceramic production.

Mino ceramics are considered to be particularly distinctive and of high quality. Tea bowls and bowls in particular are popular products from this region.

Mino ceramics go back to the Sue ceramics of the Heian period (8th-12th century).

A specially moulded cork is attached to the inside of the ashtray to allow the pipe to be gently tapped out.
