Let's not be too critical: The design of the humidors in our assortment is indeed quite diverse. Some come in classic wood veneer, others are colorful, even adorned with figurative motifs. But generally, they are all wooden boxes. Until one man had the idea to break with this tradition.
Reposón: Start-up from the Rhineland
Daniel Amann is his name, and he hails from the small town of Langenfeld in the Rhineland. Here, in the suburban area somewhere between the metropolises of Düsseldorf and Cologne, the passionate cigar smoker lives and faced a problem: He simply couldn’t come to terms with the humidors offered by the market.
Turning Things on Their Head
Daniel complained that cigar containers almost always came in the appearance of burl wood or rustic oak. We can only partly agree with him; not all humidors look like this. But Daniel isn’t entirely wrong either: Because truly innovative design is indeed the absolute exception in this field.
So Daniel got to work and designed his own humidor. It had to be modern and minimalist—and thus suit his style. Now, there’s a lot to consider with a humidor. It’s not like a Christmas crib, where you just nail a few boards together. A humidor is a highly complex climate chamber designed to ensure cigars stay in perfect condition.
So Daniel first took the time to understand what really matters. Consulting with a few experts who work professionally with cigars certainly didn’t hurt. Nor did a long breath of patience: It took several prototypes before a product was created in which cigars could actually be stored.
Does Reposón Sound Spanish to You?
Of course it does! The term Reposón is based on the Spanish word "reposo"—"rest." This certainly applies to the cigars inside the Vista Classic. But definitely not to Daniel, who continuously pursued his vision. And also not to all those who choose the acrylic glass humidor. After all, these aficionados show the courage and strength to tread new paths away from the beaten track.
The First Humidor: Reposón Vista Classic
Daniel’s first completed humidor is the Reposón Vista Classic. And indeed, Daniel achieved what he had in mind: The modern glass humidor offers a completely different design than what is commonly associated with a humidor.
The body made of transparent premium acrylic not only allows a clear view of the cigars. You don’t have to open the humidor, thereby not letting any moisture escape while you decide on a cigar. Moreover, the glass has the practical property of blocking 80 percent of UV rays. Although cigars don’t get sunburned, direct sunlight can cause them to lose color and aroma.
Spanish Cedarwood Insert
The handcrafted insert made of Spanish cedarwood also ensures long-lasting quality. A double bottom allows the installation of humidipacks, which regulate the internal climate automatically.
Measuring 30 x 20 x 12 cm, the Reposón Vista Classic is compact enough to fit almost anywhere. At the same time, it comfortably stores up to 50 cigars. Adjustable divider bars allow you to find the optimal arrangement for your cigars.
