Ancnoc Single Malt Whisky
In the northeast of Scotland, not far from Aberdeen, there is a town called Knock and a distillery with the beautiful name Knockdhu. One probably needs to be a native Scottish Gaelic speaker to pronounce it correctly. What is certain, however, is that they produce a rather fine dram there, which they have named An Cnoc. In Gaelic, it is said to be pronounced "annoc," and for those who don't directly descend from the Celts, it means "hill" when translated. Originally, the whisky was named after its distillery until they feared confusion with the Knockando distillery. After the third glass, one could easily get confused, just like tipsy Scotland tourists do with Lagavulin and Laphroaig...
Back to An Cnoc: Once a popular ingredient in blended Scotch, it has been marketed as a single malt since the 1990s. It possesses a refreshing taste with subtle sweetness, a whisky that is unassuming but by no means lacking character. And thus, it is recommended to all who are fond of seeking out good Scotch beyond the popular brands.
