The "Old Pulteney" matured for over a decade in old American oak barrels previously filled with bourbon and in Spanish oak barrels previously filled with sherry. The unique combination of these different cask types grants the whisky its characteristic individuality. The distillery's history is closely intertwined with fishing and the ocean. This connection, along with the special geographical location at the northern end of the Scottish coast, shapes the maritime character of the distinct whiskies. The salty sea air in which the whiskies mature accelerates the aging process and secures the Old Pulteney whisky's place among the top 10 malt whiskies from the UK.
