Rattray's Aromatic Line

It was in Queen Victoria's time that it all began. Charles Rattray, born in 1880, did an apprenticeship in tobacco distribution in Dundee. At that time, the city in north-eastern Scotland was one of the centres of the British tobacco industry. It didn't take long for Rattray to discover his keen enjoyment of trying out his own blends. The desire to experiment and his feeling for a good blend led him so far that he even supplied traders in the city with his own tobaccos.

In 1903, he settled in Perth, the old Scottish capital, where he opened a shop and sold tobacco under his name. A rapid rise followed: his exquisite blends quickly enjoyed increasing popularity and his name soon became known in Great Britain. He now also entered the pipe trade - to this day they are closely associated with the Rattray's name. The origin of his business, however, lies in creating first-class tobaccos.

In the meantime, it is the Rellingen-based company Kohlhaase & Kopp that produces under the Rattray's name. The brand's assortment consists mainly of classic English tobacco blends, but increasingly also Danish, i.e. flavoured blends.

Particularly with the flavourings, the originally rather traditionally oriented brand proves to be surprisingly eager to experiment. As far as the notes with which the blends are refined are concerned, Rattray's has a versatile assortment: It ranges from classic vanilla to the aromas of rum or cognac to coconut. But tropical fruits also add their scent and take the smoker for a pipe length to the dream beaches of the Caribbean - in short: Rattray's Aromatic line should have something for everyone who appreciates a high-quality blend with an interesting and sometimes innovative flavouring.
