Trinidad – Cigars, Cigarillos, and Accessories

It ranks among the greatest Cuban cigar brands: Trinidad. It is no coincidence that its name is often mentioned in the same breath as Cohiba – both are renowned for using some of the finest tobaccos ever produced on the Caribbean island. Compared to Cuba’s historic cigar houses, however, both brands are relatively young. But let's start at the beginning.

Trinidad Cigars and Their Cuban Heritage

The brand takes its name from the picturesque town of La Santísima Trinidad on Cuba’s southern coast. Since the 1980s, this charming colonial town has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and anyone who visits will quickly understand why. Its colorful streets showcase the image of Cuba that most people know from postcards. The surrounding sugar plantations are also part of the World Heritage Site, offering a glimpse into what the Caribbean looked like during the colonial era.

The Trinidad cigar itself, however, remained hidden from the public for many years. Although Trinidad was introduced just three years after Cohiba, only a select few were ever allowed to enjoy it. Until 1997, only a single vitola was produced. The Laguito No.1 was reserved exclusively for visiting heads of state—apart from Fidel Castro himself. Incidentally, this exclusivity was shared with the Cohiba Lancero. The difference between Trinidad and Cohiba? Cohiba uses a triple fermentation process for its tobaccos, while all other Cuban brands, including Trinidad, rely on double fermentation.

Trinidad Fundadores Reaches the Market

The original diplomatic cigar was never available for purchase. Instead, Trinidad reinvented itself. With the launch of the Fundadores, a vitola with a larger ring gauge and a modified blend, the brand finally became available to the public. Demand was overwhelming. Cigar enthusiasts around the world were eager to experience a premium Cuban cigar that had previously existed only as a mysterious luxury reserved for the highest circles. Unsurprisingly, it sold out almost immediately.

Cuban Trinidad Cigars from El Laguito

Today, the range of regular production cigars has expanded considerably without compromising quality. On the contrary, Trinidad has firmly established its reputation as one of Cuba’s premier cigar brands. Among aficionados, however, it remains less widely known than the ever-present Cohiba, making it something of an insider's choice. Only the finest tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region are selected and handcrafted at the renowned El Laguito factory in Havana by some of the country's most skilled torcedores.

Limited Trinidad Cigars and Accessories

Like most Cuban cigar brands, Trinidad occasionally releases limited editions. However, it is impossible to predict when Habanos S.A., the global exporter of Cuban cigars, will produce the next Trinidad Limited Edition for the international market. Unfortunately, these highly sought-after releases are anything but regular.

For a satisfying Cuban smoke during a short break, Trinidad Shorts are an excellent choice. They offer the brand's signature blend in a compact format. Dedicated Trinidad fans can also enjoy premium cigar cases, ashtrays, and cigar cutters.

Flavor Profile and Strength of Trinidad Cigars

The brand emblem features three intertwined Ts, representing the meaning of Trinidad: the Holy Trinity. Such a symbolic name suggests elegance and balance, and the cigars live up to that expectation. Trinidad cigars are known for their medium-bodied strength with distinctive floral and spicy notes, creating a flavor profile that is unmistakable to Habano enthusiasts.
