De Olifant Classic

For most people, De Olifant (the Elephant) is synonymous with the original formats like the Petit or the Knakje. These have been accompanying us since the 1980s and have not lost any of their fascination. The innovative spirit behind the small Dutch factory is Thomas Klaphake, the owner of the premium factory in our neighboring country that has been producing cigars since 1832. By the way, the name goes back to a Dutch East India Company cargo ship called "De Witte Olifant," which was launched in 1639.

De Olifant mainly produces so-called "dry" Indonesian products in the Dutch style. Occasionally, alongside the basic range, there are also flavor innovations, such as the Brasilserie. Sometimes they manage to acquire particularly beautiful batches of Brazilian (Bahia) wrapper leaves. These have a particularly sweet and rich flavor and are then used for a small series in the Corona and Matelieff formats, which are highly regarded among aficionados. Almost everyone weakens in the face of full-bodied, well-balanced notes of chocolate.

For the lighter variants, a Sumatra sand leaf is used as the wrapper, the binder is Java Besuki, and the filler blend is a medium-bodied mixture of Brazil, Cuba, Java, and Sumatra.

We are truly convinced by De Olifant cigars and cigarillos. The small and fine factory in Kampen, the Netherlands, produces very high-quality products for lovers of Dutch-style tobacco products who appreciate the special, gently spicy smoke with typical herbal notes. The Scheepskistje offers a nice overview of the De Olifant range, containing the Panatella, Knakje, Matelieff, Corona, and V.O.C formats. Here you will find all the cigars and cigarillos from De Olifant that we have available for you. Since the beginning of the 2020s, the classic De Olifant cigarillos have been produced in Sri Lanka. The beautiful factory in Kampen, the Netherlands, now only produces the significantly more expensive limited editions.
