Dictador J. Nelson 1974

These cigars were named after the International Sales Manager of Dictador Cigars, Australian Jason Nelson. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him last year at his booth at IPCPR 2015, but I'm strongly assuming he was born in 1974, and that's how the name came about. Wow, then he's younger than me?! Not to be mean: He didn't look like it at all. I guess I should just drink more rum and smoke cigars...

The well-known and esteemed cigar manufacturer Abraham "Abe" Flores produces all three available series in his Tabacalera PDR Cigars and apparently also contributed significantly to the blend; the cigars are actually quite good. Abe's factory also produces cigars such as Flores y Rodriguez and, for example, Gurkha Ghost.

The brand name Dictador may sound a bit strange to central European ears; apparently, the anglophile citizens of this planet are somewhat less sensitive to it. The man behind the brand is the Spaniard Severo Arango y Ferro, who in the 18th century worked as a tax collector for the Spanish Crown in what is now Colombia. There, due to his, positively put, robust and direct manner, he was known and notorious as "Dictador." Senor Severo fell in love with rum there and soon became one of the biggest traders of the popular local sugarcane beverage. About 180 years later, one of his descendants began producing his own Dictador Rum under the "nickname" of the famous ancestor. Since the summer of 2015, there are also the matching cigars!

All blends were crafted to pair perfectly with the recommended drink. The J. Nelson 1974 are essentially the "medium" of the three available and are particularly recommended by the manufacturer as an excellent companion for rum.

Both formats are rolled with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Dominican binder. The filler is a blend of Dominican and Colombian tobaccos. Initially, we had these cigars exclusively for the German market; here you can find an overview of all available Dictador cigars. However, in the course of 2016, the German distributor Don Stefano decided not to continue offering these series.
