EGM Puros Dominicanos

Behind EGM Puros Dominicanos is a Swiss cigar company founded by Ettore Gabriele Moraschinelli, which initially made a name for itself as an online cigar retailer in Switzerland. Today, EGM distributes not only international cigar brands but also its own creations. The company is headquartered in Balerna, in the Swiss canton of Ticino, not far from the Italian border. Its own cigar line was originally launched in 2021 through a collaboration with experienced tobacco experts and cigar rollers from the Cibao Valley near the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic. The aim was to create a classic, entirely handmade cigar with a distinctly Dominican character, featuring formats inspired by traditional Cuban cigar culture.

EGM Cigars: Swiss Company with Dominican Cigar Production

The Swiss company Chaveta S.A. is responsible for the website and distribution. As the name suggests, the production of EGM Puros Dominicanos cigars relies exclusively on tobacco from the Dominican Cibao Valley. The wrapper, binder and filler all come from this traditional tobacco-growing region, making them genuine Dominican puros. These longfiller cigars are rolled entirely by hand, with the filler tobaccos aged for at least two years before processing. The deliberately understated design of the cigars also reflects the company's philosophy of presenting its products as an expression of discreet luxury.

EGM Puros Dominicanos: From Robusto to Diademas

The "classic" line presented here was the first in the EGM collection and includes numerous formats, some of which are based on the dimensions of well-known Cuban vitolas. This variety of sizes makes EGM Puros Dominicanos particularly interesting for cigar smokers who want to explore Dominican tobaccos in classic, Cuban-inspired formats. The presentation is premium and clean: each box of 10 cigars comes in a virtually "Cuban-style" arrangement, complete with a thin sheet of paper, a thin sheet of cedar wood and a small humidifier bearing the company logo. The flavour profile of the two vitolas I tested was predominantly woody with just a hint of pepper. What I missed somewhat was the silky, velvety smoothness often found in lighter-coloured cigars. But as we all know, there's no arguing about taste! Every aficionado should certainly give these cigars a try, despite their rather ambitious pricing, and form their own opinion.
