Juan Clemente
This series is named after its French founder, Jean Clement, who emigrated from France to Latin America decades ago. In 1982, he established a cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, which is still family-owned to this day. This small and fine factory in Santiago de los Caballeros was one of the first boutique tabacaleras, a trend that is very much "en vogue" nowadays.
For the blend, four different types of tobacco are used in the filler and crowned with a Connecticut wrapper. Juan Clemente cigars are packaged in boxes of 24 pieces each and adorned with a belly band, which, however, carries this name unjustly. Instead of being placed at the top end, J.C. attaches a piece of aluminum to the burning end, which is held in place with a belly band. This type of band attachment was, to our knowledge, unique at that time. Jean's products are generally on the milder side. As a special recommendation, we suggest the Obelisco, a well-crafted torpedo that especially appeals to beginners due to its mildness.
The namesake of the cigars passed away in 2010 during the IPCPR, and I can still vividly remember how the news spread at the cigar trade show in the USA. However, his descendants and heirs fortunately did not sell the tabacalera, so the 30th anniversary could be celebrated in 2012.
Tasting very fresh and mild, these cigars are perfect for beginners or experienced aficionados to start a new day.
