Juan Clemente Club Selection

This series is mixed slightly stronger and fuller-bodied compared to the classic variant. All the tobaccos used are again from Dominican cultivation, with the exception of a small addition of Brazilian tobacco in the filler. This is responsible for the somewhat more complex, slightly sweet aroma, giving it that special kick.

Jean Clement, the Frenchman's real name, emigrated to the Dominican Republic in 1982 and founded his own small but fine cigar factory there. He believed that his name would sound better in the cigar industry in Spanish and accordingly named his cigars Juan Clemente. His quasi-boutique cigars are still rolled today in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the northern part of the island of Hispaniola. Jean was a cheerful man, beloved by all, and always walked around the tobacco fairs with a Panama hat when we met him. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2010, ironically during the IPCPR in New Orleans, USA. I still remember how the news shocked us as we had seen him the day before at the fair wearing his hat.

However, his heirs did not sell the factory but continued the production, hopefully in his spirit. Therefore, the name Juan Clemente still stands for first-class cigars from the Dominican Republic. The 30th anniversary was celebrated in 2012, making Juan Clemente cigars one of the oldest true premium brands from the Dominican Republic.
