Room 101 Farce Connecticut
Matt Booth is the founder and owner of this cigar brand, which during the years 2009 to 2016, could always be found at the Camacho or Oettinger/Davidoff booths at the IPCPR trade show in the USA. Matt originally established Room 101 as a jewelry company in 2003 and entered the cigar industry only six years later through Christian Eiroa (Camacho). Christian famously sold his cigar brand to the Swiss corporation, which then effectively took over the "hip" Matt or continued the production of his cigars.
Then, in early 2017, Booth chose not to renew his contract and announced his departure from the cigar industry. Think again! After just six months, he was back; initially, though, solely through collaborations with Robert Caldwell (Tabacalera Ventura) and A.J. Fernandez. These Hit & Run Cigars were a great success and quickly sold out with us. Since 2019, Matt has been back on his own path. He continues to have his cigars produced at the Tabacalera William Ventura, but there's no official mention of Robert Caldwell's involvement anymore, even though he also has his cigars manufactured there.
Matt has a "dangerous" appearance as a bearded "hipster" with angular glasses, plenty of tattoos, and oversized jewelry. Not only since I bumped into him pushing a stroller with his wife in a shopping mall, I'm quite sure that he's a very approachable individual.... ;-)
The Room 101 Farce Connecticut is the second series he has released under his sole leadership since the restart. For the wrapper, he uses a Connecticut leaf from Ecuador, the binder isn't mentioned, and the filler consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.
The reviews of this cigar that you can find online are all very positive. What interested us the most was whether the allegedly omnipresent sweetness and creaminess are actually as dominant as described. Yes, they are present, but in our opinion, not as intense as described. The light Room 101 Connecticut cigars are interesting and complex, rather mild yet aromatic cigars. They might not be real bargains, but then again, the cigars from Robert Caldwell from the same Tabacalera aren't either: quality and reputation come at a price! :-)
