Raices Liga de Reyes

With the Raíces Liga de Reyes cigars, Ralph Montero expands his still young cigar series with a third blend focused on complexity, spice, and balance. Following the successful Raices Clasico and Raices C5 Black lines, which were introduced in Germany in 2025, the Liga de Reyes presents itself as a royal interpretation of Honduran tobacco craftsmanship. Liga de Reyes roughly translates as “Blend of Kings.” A distinctive feature is the use of two binders from Honduras and Nicaragua, adding extra complexity to the blend. Carefully selected Honduran tobaccos are used for both the filler and the wrapper, creating a layered flavor profile with creamy nuances, subtle nuttiness, and hints of roasted coffee. This premium cigar is aimed at aficionados who appreciate a milder yet harmonious smoking experience. To write this text, I had the opportunity to light up a Toro as a sample, which confirmed these expectations. It was an enjoyable after-lunch cigar that never felt overwhelming.

Raíces Cigars – Honduran Tradition with Ralph Montero’s Signature

Behind Raíces stands Ralph Montero, who had already built a reputation as a master blender at Alec Bradley Cigars. Together with founder Alan Rubin, he helped shape this successful cigar brand until 2023, when Alan sold the company to tobacco giant STG for a reported 75 million USD. According to his son, whom I met again in the USA in May 2025, he now spends plenty of time playing golf. Good for him—I genuinely wish him well, as he is a very likable gentleman! Speaking of which, both sons, Alec and Bradley, now work for the “buyer,” STG. Apparently, their father did not provide quite enough for them to retire comfortably! I can understand that as well—well done! How did I end up talking about that again? OMG, let’s quickly get back to Raices Cigars. Incidentally, not only the cigar brand carries that name, but the entire tobacco company as well. The Fábrica de Tabacos Raíces Cubanas in Danlí, Honduras, has been producing cigars for numerous renowned brands for more than 20 years. Companies that have had their products manufactured there include the previously mentioned Alec Bradley, Illusione, and Viaje. The factory was founded in 2003 by Romay Endemaño, together with his wife Maria and their son Hugo, who currently oversees operations. It is here that handcrafted longfiller cigars are produced, relying on premium tobaccos, careful fermentation, and precise craftsmanship. The brand embodies the connection between Honduran tobacco culture and modern blending artistry.

Raíces Liga de Reyes, Clasico, and C5 Black at a Glance

The new Raíces Liga de Reyes impresses with its creamy texture and elegant roasted notes, which develop harmoniously throughout the smoking experience. The Raíces Clasico showcases the slightly fuller-bodied side of the brand and also delights with creamy notes, subtle sweetness, and delicate hints of roasted nuts. Those who prefer a more intense profile will find a powerful companion in the Raíces C5 Black, featuring earthy, woody, and chocolatey nuances along with noticeable depth. Together, these three blends form a versatile series that impressively reflects the range of modern cigars from Honduras and offers the right choice for nearly every smoking occasion.
