Bribon Cigars
These cigars from Colombia were discovered in South America by our retail partner Sebastian Gollas from Berlin and brought to Germany. They are true rarities, as there are in fact only very few brands with this South American origin. Compared to established producers like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, or Nicaragua, where thousands of blends and brands hit the market, Colombia has a long tobacco-growing tradition—but one that never really led to a major export boom.
Bribón Cigars: Colombian Craftsmanship From Barichara
Historically, Colombian tobacco was often used only as filler in blends from other countries—for example, in blends by CAO cigars or the very popular Dominican Estates cigars. Today, there are only a handful of premium brands made entirely from Colombian tobacco, and Bribón cigars is among the most well-known. Founded in 2017 by Juan Camilo Rodríguez, these cigars are crafted at the Bribón Fábrica Nacional de Tabacos in the charming small town of Barichara, located in the Santander region and often celebrated as “the most beautiful village in Colombia.” Barichara is a picturesque colonial town with narrow limestone-paved streets, surrounded by the breathtaking Chicamocha Canyon—one of the deepest canyons in South America.
Juan Camilo Rodríguez and the Bribón Fábrica: A New Cigar Brand With Tradition
For cigar enthusiasts, Bribón offers guided tours of the factory. During his last visit to our lounge in Düsseldorf, Sebastian Gollas even described it as a kind of “show factory” where visitors can experience the rolling process up close. This has the advantage that many tourists see the Bribón cigars on-site, try them directly, and then want to enjoy them again back home. That’s where we come in! The tobacco grown in Colombia’s mineral-rich soils brings smooth notes of cocoa, coffee, spices, and a hint of chocolate, without any sharpness or bitterness. Thanks to the low Ligero content and the Ecuadorian wrapper, the smoke remains creamy and fresh. The binder and filler are made entirely from Colombian tobaccos. Compared to, say, cigars from Nicaragua, which are often more intense and earthy, the Bribóns offer a uniquely light character.
