Montecristo Añejado

These cigars from Cuba were introduced globally in the first quarter of 2015: Habanos Añejados. These cigars, aged for at least five years in perfect conditions in Cuba post-rolling, are elevated to an even higher quality thanks to this additional on-site aging process. The prolonged aging period allows the cigars to intensify in complexity and harmony within an ideal environment, while preserving their original organoleptic properties. Through this process and direct contact with cedarwood, these Habanos become noticeably rounder and smoother in flavor.

Habanos Añejados: Aged Cigars from Cuba

For the initial 2015 release, two vitolas were selected that had not previously been available in the standard portfolio of these brands: Montecristo Churchills Añejados and Romeo y Julieta Pirámides Añejado.

The Habanos Añejados are delivered in original boxes that remained unmarked throughout the entire aging process and were only labeled shortly before dispatch. These cigars also feature an additional cigar band with the inscription “Añejado” (meaning “aged” in Spanish). Each box includes an insert that further explains the concept in detail. Unlike the Reservas / Gran Reservas from Cuba, which use specially aged tobaccos processed before rolling, these cigars are made from high-quality, yet standard, tobaccos that are aged after rolling.

The underside of each box displays both the production date and an additional inspection date, as each cigar was individually checked prior to worldwide distribution. In Spanish, this process is known as “Revisado,” a term familiar to some aficionados from the early 2000s, when Habanos frequently conducted individual inspections due to quality concerns.
