Guantanamera Cigars

Guantanamera is the first new Habanos brand of the 21st century. Its world premiere took place on September 14, 2002, in Germany at “Intertabac.” Since then, it has enjoyed strong popularity among aficionados who want to experience Cuban flavor without taking out a small loan. All vitolas are produced “mecanizado” – machine-made – in a modern factory in Havana. This keeps availability intact. By contrast, for most other handmade Cuban cigars, complaints have been widespread since the Covid pandemic in the early 2020s, as only homeopathic quantities have been shipped and prices have in some cases risen sharply.

Guantanamera Cigars Cuban Tradition Redefined

We recommend the following vitolas (formats) for affordable and uncomplicated Cuban enjoyment:

  • Our top recommendation is the Cristales, a parejo with a 41 ring gauge and 150 mm length. It offers unadulterated Cuban tobacco flavor for little money. The cigar comes pre-cut in a sturdy plastic tubo, making it ideal on the go. Cristales are also available in a tin of 25.
  • The Décimos also work for short smokes on the go. They come pre-cut and wrapped in cellophane. The Cumpay, however, was discontinued in the mid-2010s.

Guantanamera is also the title of a famous song written and popularized in 1928 by Cuban Joseito Fernandez. The song achieved international success in the 1960s, representing Cuba worldwide. The term Guantanamera refers to a woman from Guantánamo. As a Habanos brand, Guantanamera cigars were introduced to the international market in 2002. The brand existed in five different formats and was complemented by a cigarillo format, the Minis. With their comparatively lighter yet unmistakably Cuban flavor and low price, Guantanamera cigars are a good entry point into the world of Habanos. The cigars are made from tobacco grown in the Vuelta Arriba region, Cuba’s second most important tobacco-growing area.
