Montecristo 1935

The cigar brand Montecristo was originally founded in 1935, hence the name of the new line and also the special edition 80 Aniversario, which was officially released in 2015 but only arrived in the German market in 2016. Throughout its long history, numerous new formats have been introduced and discontinued. However, after the Montecristo Open cigars in 2009, this is only the second introduction of an independent line under this brand name.

They were first introduced at the XIX Festival del Habano in Havana during the closing gala evening. It is intended to be the new premium line of the best-selling brand within the Habanos S.A. portfolio and consists of the following three vitolas:

• Dumas - Prominente Corto (130 mm, ring gauge 49)
• Maltés - Sobresalientes (135 mm, ring gauge 53), previously used only for limited editions
• Leyenda - Maravillas No.2 (165 mm, ring gauge 55), the same vitola as the Montecristo 80 Aniversario

All three formats are offered in boxes of 20 cigars, with a visual design that closely resembles that of the special edition Montecristo 80 Aniversario. For the first time, Habanos S.A. is using a third band on a cigar: in addition to a second band that identifies the line, there is now a third band attached to the foot of the cigar. In terms of flavor, these three vitolas are noticeably bolder than the classic formats. We recommend these specialties to the more experienced, Havana-loving connoisseur who otherwise enjoys cigars from the Bolivar, Partagas, or Ramon Allones range.
