Charatan Cigars

The name Charatan looks back on a long history that originally began in the world of pipes. As early as the 19th century, Charatan became synonymous with handcrafted pipes that secured a solid place among connoisseurs in the UK. For many decades, the name was associated with traditional smoking pleasure and British elegance. In 1863, Frederick Charatan opened a boutique in London aimed at delighting the most discerning tobacco enthusiasts. Located on Mansell Street, near the legendary Tower of London, it became a place of tradition—an ode to aromas and captivating smoke. For over 160 years, the name Charatan has stood for the British love of fine tobacco and high-quality handmade pipes.

Charatan Cigars: British Craftsmanship Since 1863

Later, the portfolio was expanded by the then brand owner STG (Scandinavian Tobacco Group) to include cigars, initially from Nicaraguan production, although these gradually disappeared from the range. The last of the “old” vitolas with the white and gold band reached us in 2020, while the “new” Charatan Cigars were introduced to the German market in late summer 2025. The launch of a completely redesigned cigar line, recognizable by its distinctive blue band, was initiated by the British distributor TOR Imports. The owner and CEO is our long-time friend Scott Vines, who runs the company successfully and acquired and revived the “ancient” Charatan brand name. In the UK, there are three different lines in total; the German importer M.K. Söhne (the Kohlhase Brothers) has decided to start with the light Claro variant. Let’s see whether the Maduro and the Colorado will also be added!

Charatan Cigars With Connecticut Wrapper: Mild Flavors From Nicaragua

These new Charatan cigars are rolled with a very light, fine Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador. The binder and filler blend come entirely from Nicaragua. This origin typically suggests a different profile, yet these cigars are designed to be incredibly mild and smooth in flavor. The Charatan Claro cigars are ideal for sweetening a cigar lover’s morning, perfect for pairing with the first cup of milky coffee or cappuccino of the day.
