Oliva Flor de Oliva Connecticut

Flor de Oliva cigars are the “budget” lines of the renowned manufacturer from Nicaragua. The variant presented here, featuring a Connecticut wrapper, was first introduced in Germany in spring 2025. The Flor de Oliva Original and the Flor de Oliva Maduro have been part of our range since 2009. The respective importers have always treated them somewhat neglectfully—certainly not helped by the fact that one of the lines was initially released with a sweetened tip, which didn’t sit well with the German market. The Connecticut cigars presented here have been visually upgraded and appear more refined overall. Combined with their extremely attractive pricing, these cigars are likely to become a respectable success in our market.
Flor de Oliva Connecticut: New Cigar Line With Ecuadorian Wrapper
The wrapper used is a Connecticut from Ecuador, the binder comes from Indonesia, and the filler is entirely Nicaraguan. The Flor de Oliva Connecticut cigars are classic representatives of their kind. They appear very mild, but they deliver a medium-bodied flavor profile. As expected, the Connecticut leaf brings in floral-herbal notes. In our opinion, these are excellently “captured” and complemented by the Indonesian binder, which typically adds a touch of sweetness and richness. The classic Nicaraguan blend in the filler provides the desired body and rounds off the overall profile.
Affordable Cigars From Nicaragua: Flor de Oliva as a Budget Alternative
The Oliva family has been growing tobacco since 1886, originally on their native island of Cuba. Oliva Sr. fled Cuba after the revolution and settled in Nicaragua. By the way, the Olivas described here have nothing to do with Oliva Tobacco Co., which is primarily known for growing wrapper tobacco in Ecuador. Initially, the family’s cigars were marketed under the name Gilberto Oliva; these were offered in our shop until 2004, and the importer back then—interestingly enough—was El Mundo del Tabaco by Heinrich Villiger. The Olivas have achieved their greatest success with the Oliva Serie V cigars since 2006, the most premium and exclusive cigars the company had produced up to that point. Since 2016, the cigar manufacturer has been part of the empire of Fred Vandermarliere and his VCF (Vandermarliere Cigar Family). The Belgian family business reportedly acquired the company for 40 million US dollars and has successfully continued its operation ever since.
