Schumacher Selection
We’ve seen quite a few famous athletes launch their own cigar lines just to see their well-known names on cigar bands! I remember cigars from racing driver Emerson Fittipaldi from way back — we got them for the first time in 2005, and they’ve been sold out for ages. Then there’s basketball player Tiago Splitter with his Luciano cigars, or the Notorious cigars by Conor McGregor, released in 2025. The “wildest” story in recent times is probably the Undisputed 2.0 cigars by Mike Tyson, launched by cigar maker Gurkha. Damn, I’m drifting off-topic again – anyway, let’s finally turn our attention to the Schumacher Double Toro cigars from Bugge.
With the Schumacher Selection, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher and Paul Bugge Cigars present a handcrafted cigar line that brings the refined taste and precision of motorsport into the world of tobacco enjoyment. The series targets aficionados who appreciate a harmonious, creamy, and balanced cigar – mild to medium in strength, with a smoking time of around 60 to 90 minutes. Perfect for connoisseurs who value balance, craftsmanship, and a stylish smoking experience. To be fair, the presentation is very elegant and really appeals to us. The combination of black, silver, and white looks particularly refined against the light, silky wrapper. The Höldke family, who stand behind Paul Bugge Cigars, have been highly successful on the German market for many years with their Leonel Cigars.
Schumacher Selection – Quality and Origin
The cigars are entirely handmade in Nicaragua (“hecho a mano”) and combine a Nicaraguan filler with a matching binder and a light Connecticut Shade wrapper from the USA. This blend delivers a silky smoke texture with creamy, slightly sweet notes. The brand is distributed exclusively in Germany by Paul Bugge GmbH, merging traditional tobacco expertise with Schumacher’s commitment to perfection and elegance. The result is a cigar that neither overwhelms nor bores – ideal for lovers of finely nuanced flavors. Personally, I’d prefer a slightly smaller ring gauge; I’m not really into those thick 6x60 cigars, often called “Gordo” (Spanish for “the fat one”). I expect more formats will follow – we’re looking forward to that!
Double Toro – Powerful, Creamy, Balanced
The only known format so far, the Schumacher Selection Double Toro (6×60), perfectly represents what the series stands for: a smooth, creamy start with notes of wood, nuts, and subtle spice that develop into fine coffee and leather tones as the smoke progresses. The burn is even, the ash light gray and firm – a hallmark of top-quality craftsmanship. With its mild to medium strength, the cigar offers a relaxed, elegant smoking experience that’s also suitable for beginners. For those seeking balance, craftsmanship, and a personal story in tobacco, the Schumacher Selection cigar from Nicaragua is a highly enjoyable recommendation.
