Buying a Humidor: Size and Intended Use Matter
Before buying, it is worth taking a look at your own cigar collection. For a few cigars that you smoke regularly, a compact desktop humidor is usually sufficient. If you want to store entire boxes, different formats, or a growing collection, you should allow for a little more space. The stated capacities are intended as a guide: Thick Robustos or Gordos require more room than the same number of slender Coronas. Trays, dividers, and humidifiers also take up some of the interior space.
Affordable Humidors and Exclusive Premium Models
For those just getting started, the Classic cigar humidors offer numerous sizes and designs at comparatively affordable prices. Desktop Humidors, Travel Humidors and Humidor Cabinets
The classic desktop humidor is ideal for storing cigars at home and is available in many sizes, types of wood, and finishes. Travel humidors protect a smaller selection while you are on the go; particularly robust models are made from plastic or acrylic and are compact enough for easy transport.
For extensive collections, we offer humidor cabinets and display cabinets with trays, drawers, or glass doors. With these larger models, electronic humidification with air circulation makes it easier to regulate the interior climate evenly.
Special Cuban Humidors With and Without Cigars
A special category consists of humidors from Cuban brands such as Cohiba, Montecristo, or Habanos. It is important to distinguish between empty branded humidors and limited-edition special Cuban humidors with cigars. The latter are often released for anniversaries or as numbered special editions and contain a specified number of the respective cigar. Whether a humidor is supplied with or without cigars is therefore always stated in the relevant product description.
Cedar Wood, Hygrometers and Humidification Systems
With a wooden humidor, it is worth taking a closer look at the workmanship. The lid should close properly, and the hinges and fittings should be sturdy. The interior is often lined with Spanish cedar or a corresponding veneer. Trays and dividers help keep different formats neatly organized.
A reliable hygrometer indicates the relative humidity; depending on the model, this can be regulated using acrylic polymer humidifiers, Boveda Packs, traditional sponge systems, or electronic humidifiers. Sponge humidifiers work well in principle but require more regular monitoring than self-regulating or electronic systems.
The Right Humidity Level in a Humidor
At room temperature, around 69 to 72 percent relative humidity is generally considered a standard guideline. For slightly drier storage or longer aging periods, levels between 65 and 69 percent are also frequently chosen. More important than any single percentage is maintaining a climate that is as stable as possible: Cigars that are too dry become brittle and burn faster, while persistently excessive humidity can impair the burn and encourage mold growth.
