Romeo Pipe Freehand

Romeo Domenico, or Mimmo, as almost everyone calls him, has a considerable hereditary predisposition. Namely with the "briar wood gene", which was transmitted from his father.

Because Mimmo's father, Romeo Filippo, was the operator of a briar wood mill in the Buyère-Ebauchons for the pipe industry, which was still flourishing at the time, was sawn. A not entirely harmless activity, in which occupational safety officers today would probably clap their hands over their heads. In any case, not all ten employees always had all ten fingers.

At least that was the natural environment Mimmo grew up in. And there was one thing that already distinguished his father's briar mill from the many others in the Taggia area. He relied on uncompromisingly good quality, not quantity. This inevitably dictated his career path when Mimmo also joined his father's company at the age of 18.

And while many briar mills around him ceased operations, his company was still doing great, because more and more freehand pipe makers were viewing the pipes as works of art. And for such works of art you don't need a lot of wood, but without exception excellent quality.

Such circumstances brought him together with his "master" in the pipe-making, Teddy Knudsen. Because up to now Mimmo had sawn up a lot of briar, read it, and bought it in Calabria, Corsica, Greece, but had never processed it into his end product. The contact with Teddy (one of the Danish pipe-making legends) changed everything.

Over the years Mimmo has been able to keep improving: practicing a lot, practicing, practicing. But his pipes were nowhere to be bought. He felt that they weren't good enough yet to be allowed to take money for it. The joy was all the greater when Mimmo asked us at Intertabac in 2019 whether we would like to be his dealer in Germany. You can imagine that we didn't wait long for the answer.

Because what he "can" see for yourself! And of course he always has the best wood. Even the best of the best! His pipes are perfect smoking instruments, but always a piece of sculpture, work of art and homage to the miracle in nature. We will never really have many Mimmo pipes in our range, but we are happy for every pipe we can offer you.

Since Mimmo is still the operator of his briar mill, he supplies the most renowned pipe makers worldwide, from Tom Eltang to CO Pipes, with briar wood. We would be happy if you felt a little of the magic of his work, the essential features of which have not changed for centuries. Maybe the spark has jumped over and you would like to have a piece of fascination in your home ...
