Giordano military
When cavalry officers in the 20th century took their pipes out on horseback, they found that they often broke at the stem when they put them in their pockets.
To avoid this, a resourceful pipe maker invented a conical mouthpiece which he inserted into the pipe stem. He stabilised the end of the stem with a silver olive - which also looked very elegant.
This made it possible to do without the susceptible spigot, and the pipe was much easier to dismantle.
This was the birth of the "Army Mount" pipe.
The Italian manufacturer Giordano continues this tradition with the Giordano Military. All pipes have an olive in nickel silver, as well as a pluggable 9mm acrylic mouthpiece.
The perfect pipes for on the go, and also extremely appealing.
