Stanwell Army Mount
The Name "Army Mount" is from the 20th century. Because cavalery officers always divided the mouthpice from the shank to put it in their pockets, the mouthpiece tenons worn off or broke quite often.
To avoid this, the shanks has been reinforced with a silver mounting, and the mouthpieces lost their tenons and became conical. Mouthpieces were now very easy to seperate from the shank, without any damage.
This construction survived to this day and became style forming and a well known pipe design feature.
This six shapes from the house of Stanwell are designed by the prominent pipemaker Sixten Ivarsson. Also the popular shape No.11 is available in this series.
The pipes have a 9mm acrylic mouthpiece and a smooth, waxed surface with aluminium mounting.
