Schuster Cigarillos Vintage

The company Schuster – or perhaps more accurately the Schuster family – has been producing cigars and cigarillos since 1909 in East Westphalia, North Rhine-Westphalia. The Schusters run one of the truly last remaining manufactories for high-quality cigarillos. In addition, they import numerous premium longfillers as proprietary brands, driven by expertise and genuine passion. The three products currently available here were introduced in summer 2025; we first saw and sampled them at Inter Tabac in Dortmund.

Cigarillos from Bünde: Craftsmanship Tradition Since 1909 at Schuster

In the version presented there, the word Prestige still appeared on the lid. Upon inquiry and after a lengthy discussion, we and the Schusters agreed that the name somehow didn’t feel right. From a retailer's point of view, we had odd associations with another brand that sounded similar but was, in terms of quality, light-years away from the cigarillos presented here.

Vintage Cigarillos with Year-Specific Tobacco: The New Line from Martin Schuster

We are therefore very pleased to have received the three products without this label and would actually describe the three versions as vintage cigarillos due to the use of year-specific tobaccos. The date listed on each refers to the harvest year of the wrapper leaf used. As Martin Schuster personally assured me once again, the Schusters age their tobaccos in-house for at least three years before they are used in production.

Family Business with History: A Portrait of the August Schuster Cigar Factory

In 1909, August Schuster founded the cigar factory of the same name in Bünde, Westphalia. At that time, he had already spent about ten years running the Gebr. Schuster manufactory with his brother. The family tradition goes back to the 18th century and began in the bakery trade, which is where the family motto originates: “Dedicated to pleasure for generations.” At the height of the cigar’s popularity, the extended family operated six factories; since then, the Schusters have produced a proud 16 cigar manufacturers. They still uphold this unique global tradition to this day and thus celebrate their 100th company anniversary with pride. Currently, brothers Manfred and Philipp Schuster lead the company in the solid tradition of its founders. Only top-tier quality is accepted; all products, both in-house and imported longfillers, are made exclusively from 100% tobacco. Today, many fine tobacconists carry the ever-popular products from Bünde. Notable names include Partageno, Lepanto, Casa de Torres, Trüllerie Cigarillos (Brasil and Sumatra), and Maria Mancini cigars. All of these brands have been on the market for decades and have played a part in cigar history.
