Il Padrino Cigars

It is somewhat surprising that no one thought of this earlier. The Godfather, or simply Godfather in English and Il Padrino in Italian, is undoubtedly a very fitting name for a cigar brand. In the film of the same name, Don Vito sits at a table and enjoys his Cuban Romeo y Julieta cigar, while at the same time working to prevent an escalating war within the Mafia.

The Cigar Brand “Il Padrino” Impressively Combines Tradition and Symbolic Culture

The cigars were originally developed by Michael Vohwinkel and André Riehl and, after six years of ageing, brought to Germany by Casagranda Cigars. The first format was a Robusto Extra measuring 58x5. The guiding principle, or in modern terms the brand’s “claim”, is: “Honor and Respect from Tradition”. Beneath it, the short phrase “Kiss the Ring” is often written. This is a homage to the gangster ritual in which a subordinate kisses the “Big Boss’s” ring as a sign of submission or respect. Thus, for those who do not find it too strange, anyone who wishes may kiss the cigar band before lighting the cigar.

Don Luigi: the Next Generation

In 2024, the first batch sold out, prompting a second one to be commissioned, now produced in the Dominican Republic. These cigars, called Don Luigi, are rolled near Punta Cana and are currently available in only one format.
