Olman Founders Edition 1997
This cigar series is one of the first to bear the name of the owning family on the band. The Tabacos de Costa Rica factory, run by the Olman family, remained in the background for a long time, mainly producing for other brands. Founded by the "senior" Don Olman in 1997 in Puriscal, Costa Rica, the factory manufactures several well-known cigars, including:
- Vegas de Santiago Cigars
- several lines from Lampert Cigars
- the Villa Casdagli Cigars by Jeremy Casdagli
- Malekö Cigars
- and several others currently unavailable in Germany, such as Atabey Cigars, Byron Cigars, and MBombay Cigars
Leadership and Strategy in the Cigar Market
Today, the founder’s two sons, Felipe and Andres Olman, are in charge and successfully leading the now considerably expanded company into the future. Due to the increasingly unstable and volatile corporate structures within the cigar industry, many manufacturers have, since the early 2010s, started releasing lines that “cannot be taken away” from them. This means that brand owners, for example, may switch factories and have their cigars produced elsewhere, which can threaten the existence of the original manufacturer. The Plasencia family, for instance, has significantly expanded its portfolio of proprietary Plasencia Cigars in recent years to become more independent and to capitalize on its reputation. The same trend can be observed with Raices Cigars or Rocky Patel Cigars, who even built his own manufacturing facility. Vertical integration is the name of the game!
Olman Founder's Edition 1997 Corojo: Enjoyment and Quality
For the Olman Founder's Edition 1997 Corojo Cigars, the master blenders used a Corojo wrapper from Ecuador. Beneath it lies an H-2000 binder, also from Ecuador. The filler blend consists of Brazilian and Dominican tobaccos. I just lit up an Emperador to see where the flavor journey leads! The Olman Founder's Edition 1997 Corojo typically reveals a wood-forward and creamy profile. Dominant notes include cedar and subtle nutty hints like almond, along with a delicate coffee note that adds some depth to the blend.
