Herr Lehmann Cigars
We were alerted by a customer in our Cigarworld Lounge to the fact that this small, traditional manufactory exists in Lahr/Black Forest and that these cigars are “really delicious.” Always curious and eager to learn, as we are, we did a bit of research and got in touch. Gregor Grüb, one of the two owners and founders, then visited us in Düsseldorf for a cigar in the following weeks (where he, by the way, had been based himself for many years!), and we chatted a little about his project.
Herr Lehmann Cigars: Traditional Craftsmanship From the Black Forest
German tobacco cultivation has had its roots in the Lahr region for around 250 years. As early as 1924, the Oskar Lehmann Cigar Manufactory was founded by the man of the same name and his wife. At that time, there were still around 300 cigar factories there! In the mid-1960s, his son Oskar and his wife took over the manufactory, but found it difficult to compete with the increasingly machine-made rival products. In addition, inexpensive, handmade imports from the Caribbean entered the German market, and some government subsidies were discontinued. The Lehmann family, however, consistently focused on artisanal quality and managed to inspire many customers for more than another 50 years. In 2014, the Lehmanns finally placed their life’s work into the hands of Gregor Grüb and Dr. Klaus Harisch.

For the filler and binder, only Geudertheimer tobacco from the Ortenau region is used, which is grown near the manufactory. The Geudertheimer is harvested and dried by hand in four passes and then slowly fermented. During this process, the characteristic aromatic compounds are known to develop while nicotine and ammonia are reduced at the same time. For the wrapper, an imported leaf from Sumatra is used, or one from Brazil for the No. 7 – the Geudertheimer simply can’t manage that … ;-)
The Herr Lehmann Cigars have been available from us in various sizes and packaging options since September 2016. Particularly impressive is certainly the No. 5 with its gold leaf coating! Apart from these specialties, you will find the complete range of all cigarillos available in Germany with us.
