Herr Lehmann Cigars

We were made aware of this small, traditional factory in Lahr/Schwarzwald by a customer in our Cigarworld Lounge, who mentioned that their cigars are "really delicious." Always interested in everything new and eager to learn, we did a little research and got in touch with them. Gregor Grüb, one of the two owners/founders, then visited us in Düsseldorf in the following weeks for a cigar (where, by the way, he used to call home for many years!), and we had a chat about his project.

German tobacco cultivation has its roots in the Lahr region for about 250 years. The Oskar Lehmann Cigar Factory was founded by Mr. Oskar Lehmann and his wife in 1924. At that time, there were still around 300 cigar factories in the area! In the mid-1960s, their son Oskar and his wife took over the factory, but they found it challenging to compete with the machine-made products that were becoming more prevalent. Additionally, inexpensive handmade imports from the Caribbean entered the German market, and some government subsidies were cut.

However, the Lehmanns remained committed to craftsmanship and managed to win over many customers for another 50 years. In 2014, they finally handed over their life's work to Gregor Grüb and Dr. Klaus Harisch.

Composition of the tobacco blend:

For the filler and binder, only Geudertheimer tobacco from Ortenau is used, which is grown near the factory. The Geudertheimer tobacco is hand-harvested and dried in four passes, then slowly fermented. During this process, the characteristic flavor compounds are formed, while nicotine and ammonia are reduced. As for the wrapper, an imported leaf from Sumatra is used, except for the No. 7, which uses one from Brazil - the Geudertheimer tobacco doesn't provide that..... ;-)

Since September 2016, Herr Lehmann cigars have been available in two sizes and a total of five different variants, as well as two different cigarillos. The No. 5 with the gold leaf overlay is particularly impressive!
