Artista David Ortiz
These cigars are produced at Tabacalera El Artista in Tamboril in the Dominican Republic. This factory was founded over 60 years ago by Ramon “Pulita” Rodriguez and is currently run by his grandson, Radomes Rodriguez. Among others, the cigars Big Papi by David Ortiz (a famous former baseball player in the USA) are also rolled there. One could tell quite “wild” stories about David Ortiz as well; here, they have been summarized in a slightly shortened form below.
Tabacalera El Artista: Home of the Big Papi and Exactus Cigars
David was born in the Dominican Republic in 1975 and has officially been a US citizen since 2009. His professional career began in 2001 with the Minnesota Twins, but things only really took off after his move to the famous Boston Red Sox in 2003. The “Designated Hitter” already won the World Series in 2004, ending an 86-year wait for the next championship title for the Boston Red Sox. The “Red Sox” repeated this success in 2007, not least thanks to David’s outstanding performances in home runs and batting averages. His nickname in the baseball world is Big Papi – this comes from the fact that David called everyone whose name he could no longer remember “Papi.” The first person to call him that and thereby establish the nickname was Red Sox reporter Jerry Remy. The addition “The Slugger” generally means something like “hitter” – in this context, however, it refers to the fact that David Ortiz could, or still can, hit the ball extremely hard.
Ortiz ended his professional playing career at the end of the 2016 season. Shortly after his retirement, the Red Sox announced that his jersey number 34 would no longer be assigned in the future. In 2019, he unfortunately made headlines again when he was seriously injured by gunshots to the back during a visit to his hometown of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). After around four weeks, he was able to leave the hospital. The theory of the local authorities was that he had simply been mistaken for someone else while sitting in a restaurant with another man. However, American investigators believe it was a jealous local gangster who wanted to take revenge on him for unknown reasons.
Exactus Cigars: Dominican Craftsmanship Perfected
Among others, the Exactus cigars are also produced there, which were introduced in Germany at Inter Tabac 2017 by the importer Kleinlagel. The wrapper is a Connecticut from Ecuador, while a Dominican Criollo was used as the binder. The filler also consists entirely of Dominican Criollo. Here you will find an overview of the cigars from Artista Cigars!
