Davidoff Year Of The
This cigar manufacturer is one of the oldest in the world, yet far from being outdated. In the 2010s, Davidoff’s marketing team developed the idea that special cigars inspired by the Chinese zodiac signs would resonate particularly well in that market. As China became increasingly important during this period—and has since grown into one of the leading global markets—the first Year of the Dog Grand Churchill cigar was introduced in 2018, launching this series.
Limited Editions: Davidoff’s Success in the Chinese New Year Market
Since then, exclusive cigars have been released annually, each celebrating the respective zodiac sign in highly attractive packaging. These limited editions typically arrive around November of the preceding year, ensuring availability in time for the Chinese New Year celebrations in February. As these cigars are often purchased as gifts, this lead time of roughly three months makes perfect sense from a retail perspective. Early releases started at what now seem relatively modest prices of around €36; today, partly due to rising prices of Cuban cigars, they are well above €60 per cigar.
Davidoff Cigars Have Become Coveted Collector’s Items
This trend has also influenced pricing across other cigar manufacturers. As a result, Nicaraguan cigars, such as those from Plasencia, have also become significantly more expensive, reflecting the overall upward shift in pricing for exclusive and rare cigars. Davidoff cigars and their limited editions are highly sought-after treasures worldwide and are typically sold out quickly—so don’t wait too long while they are still available!
