Epic Maduro Reserva

The American Dean Parsons founded the cigar brand Epic Cigars in the year 2010. During a stay in the Dominican Republic, he sat on the beach for a long time, watching the surf, until a suitable name for his future cigar brand came to him. He chose Epic Cigars. One of the reasons is that a friend of his sells sports equipment under the name Epic Kitesurfing, and he generally liked the name. And, of course, the domain was still available!

The brand slogan is the following, which also fits with what his cigars are meant to represent: "You deserve a cigar worthy of your achievements!" Well, that really catches the ear: after all, who wouldn't want to talk about their life's achievements in that way or hear about themselves that way...!? Dean is a long-time aficionado; his desire was to turn his hobby into a profession. In English, the chosen brand name stands for things like "epic," "grand," "significant," and "stunning."

However, other manufacturers also wanted to sell their cigars with this term: In 2012, a trademark dispute arose between him and the cigar giant Altadis over their Dominican cigars under the name Montecristo Epic No. 2. The compromise reached between the two parties ensures that Altadis can continue to distribute these two editions, but without Dean's approval, they cannot release any further products with this designation on the market.

Dean Parsons finally introduced his first cigar line under the name Epic Corojo Reserva at the IPCPR in Las Vegas in 2014. The darker variant described here, featuring Brazilian Maduro-Arapiraca, appeared a year later at IPCPR 2015 in New Orleans. There, Martina Kleinlagel, co-owner of the cigar importer Kleinlagel from Bruchsal, discovered these new cigars and decided to bring Dean's cigars to Germany and distribute them here. One of the originally available series has the word "Habano" in its name and therefore, for well-known trademark reasons (US embargo against Cuba), cannot be sold in the EU. In November 2015, this series was then brought to Germany (renamed) as Epic Gold.

The Epic cigars are rolled in the Charles Fairmorn factory in the Dominican Republic. This Tabacalera also produces many lines from Kristoff and Belmore, among others. For the wrapper, Dean chose a Brazilian Arapiraca for the Epic Maduro Reserva, and the binder is one from Cameroon. For the filler, he blended Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

The first boxes arrived in September 2015. We wish the importer Kleinlagel and the manufacturer Dean Parsons much success with them in Germany!
