Matilde Para Jose Seijas

For nearly four decades, José Seijas shaped the development of the Tabacalera de García cigar factory, transforming it from a primarily machine-based operation into the world’s largest manufacturer of hand-rolled longfiller cigars. Under his leadership, the (non-Cuban) versions of Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and H. Upmann cigars were developed, among others. He also created or played a major role in developing the highly regarded Vega Fina and Santa Damiana cigars.
Matilde Cigars: Enrique Seijas Honors His Father With a Special Edition
These are among the most popular premium cigars in Germany. In 2012, he retired—only to set new standards shortly thereafter with his own brand, Matilde. Sadly, José Seijas passed away in November 2024 at the age of just 74. His son Enrique had planned to honor his father with a cigar—or a cigar line—while he was still alive to enjoy the recognition. Unfortunately, this could no longer be realized. The 6x52 Toro released in 2025 is rolled with a wrapper from Ecuador and a binder and filler blend from the Dominican Republic. The finished cigars were aged for over a year and offer aficionados a balanced and finely tuned profile.
Premium Cigars With Heart: Matilde Para José Seijas Supports Parkinson Foundation
Beyond serving as a tribute to his father’s craftsmanship, Enrique Seijas also aims to do good for others with these cigars. A portion of the proceeds from every Matilde Para José Seijas cigar is donated to a Parkinson foundation in the Dominican Republic (Fundación Dominicana Contra el Mal del Parkinson – FUNDOCONEDEP). In 2025, this initiative raised $10,000 to help provide affected individuals with much-needed access to medication. The project is set to continue annually. The first edition consisted of 750 boxes, totaling 15,000 cigars.
