Montecristo Cigars

Beside Cohiba the Montecristo is the best known and sold Habano brand. The medium-strength cigars are very popular among the experienced smokers as well as by beginners. All formats of the brand are characterized by a unique flavor, and strong aromas such as coffee, cocoa and vanilla, combined with medium, fruity-sweet flavor of tobacco. The production of Monte Cristo longfiller takes place in the Jose Marti factory (formerly H. Upmann factory) and partially in El Laguito mainly.

Our recommendation for getting into the brand is also the best-selling Habano worldwide, the Montecristo No. 4, a Mareva with a ring gauge of 42 mm and a length of 129 mm. It presents the typical Montecristo taste and matches with a smoking time of about 45 minutes actually on any occasion. For a shorter smoking period we recommend the smaller sister, the No suitable. 5.

It has, however, a little more time to enjoy and the demand for something more abundance of smoke, the No.2 is one of the best pyramids from Cuba. With her ring size of 52, it provides a much bulkier, more creamy smoking experience compared to the slimmer formats.

Friends of particularly elegant formats prefer the Especiales No.. 1, a cigar in the same format as the famous Cohiba Lancero, with a ring gauge of 38 mm and a length of 192 mm. Smoked with care, it delivers up to two and a half hours of smoking pleasure.

To meet the demand for more shorter formats with big ring sizes the brand offers the Edmundo series. The classic Edmundo has a length of 135 mm with a ring gauge of 52 mm. The Petit Edmundo has a length of 110 mm with the same diameter. Both longfiller offer the full range of flavors of the brand, and are also available in practical Tubos.

Montecristo cigars: About the brand

The Montecristo brand was founded in 1935 by Alonso Menendez. The wealthy Spaniards bought the Cuban factory of the Particulares and developed its own brand immediately. The name goes back to the famous novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by the French writer Alexandre Dumas. This novel was one of the most popular works that were read at that time the torcedores during their work.

The brand became very successful, so Menéndez could buy up the failed H. Upmann factory from its profits in 1937 and continue the production of both brands there. He always worked very hard to ensure the success of its brand especially to use only the best tobaccos for the production of cigars. Customers respect this, the sales went to continue, and the H. Upmann brand was able to recover. Finally the company has to move to a larger building to remain with the demand the factory.

Until the revolution only five Montecristo formats were produced, the No. 1 to No. 5. Since 1969, after the construction of the El Laguito factory, there were three new formats, the Especial No. 1 and 2 and the joyita identical Cohiba with the first three formats introduced to the market. In the 70s the formats A and B were added. The Montecristo A is brought to a Guinness record as the most expensive cigar in the world. Their enormous size (RG 47, 235 mm) made them very popular with business leaders and film stars.
